Introduction of the Department of Infectious Disease
The department of infectious disease, which was established in 1954, is one of the most important medical centers for infectious disease treatment, education and research in southern China. The department has 8 inpatient wards with a total of 338 beds. We have more than 215 staff, including 20 professors and31 associate professors. The annual outpatients visit is 4,800 and 400,000 for the inpatient visits. The department owns the most advanced equipments and technologies for prevention and treatment of liver diseases, such as stem cells therapy and artificial liver. We established a “patient follow-up system” in 2008. Until now, nearly 20000 patients had benefited from the system for the long-term standardized treatment.
Our department is one of the “Key Clinical Disciplines” in Guangdong province. As the “Center for Control and Prevention of Parasitic Disease” in Guangdong province and “Treatment Center for Public Health Emergency and Emerging Infectious Diseases”, we made great contributions during the SARS, bird flu, and H1N1 flu outbreak, hand-foot-and-mouth diseases and the other public health emergencies.
The department has one of the most famous infectious disease training programs in China, and is well-known for its excellent teaching and research contributions to the University.?
As the “Medical Research Center for Viral Hepatitis” in Guangdong Province, the department carried out more than one hundred research projects and received nearly 2 million grants in total, including one "973 Project", ten “National Science and Technology Major Projects” and several NFSC projects.?More than 500 articles are published on core journals collected by SCI database, such as the “New England Journal of Medcine”, “Hepatology”, “European Jourmal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology”, and so on.
